5-Axis CNC Machinist-ProgrammerFrederick, CO 80504 (Firestone / Longmont area) · $32.00-39.00 per hour, higher for exceptional experience
Schott Manufacturing Solutions (SMS) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) precision CNC machine shop in Frederick, Colorado, on the Firestone / Longmont side. We build mission-critical components for leading defense and aerospace companies, and our purpose is simple: to engineer the precision that protects and advances our nation.
We are AS9100D and ISO 9001 certified and ITAR registered. We run a modern, 5-axis-heavy shop, and we want the best machinists in the Front Range on our floor.
Shifts
We have openings on a weekly night second shift and on a weekend shift. Tell us which you prefer when you apply. Day-shift conversations are welcome too.
The Role
We are looking for a top-tier 5-axis machinist who can take a job from model and print all the way to an approved first article: program it, set it up, prove it out, and run it. This is not a load-and-go position. You will own our most complex prototype and new-program work, and you will help turn proven prototype processes into efficient, repeatable palletized production.
If you are the person other machinists come to when a part is hard, we want to talk to you.
Our Equipment
- Matsuura 5-axis machining center with ~15-pallet system
- HAAS UMC-1000 and HAAS UMC-500 5-axis machines, including a 10-pallet UMC-500
- HAAS VM-3s with trunnions, VM-2s, and a mill/turn lathe
- In-house CMM inspection for production and prototype work
- ProShop ERP for work orders, setup documentation, and job tracking
What You Will Do
- Program 3+2 and full simultaneous 5-axis toolpaths in hyperMill from customer models and drawings
- Plan jobs end to end: workholding and fixture design, tool selection, operation sequencing, and work offsets
- Set up, prove out, and run first-article parts, working directly with Quality to meet AS9102 FAI requirements
- Machine complex, tight-tolerance parts in aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and other aerospace alloys
- Reduce cycle times and build robust processes that transition cleanly from prototype to palletized production
- Perform in-process inspection and hold tolerances to +/- 0.0005 and tighter where required
- Document setups, programs, and work instructions in ProShop so jobs repeat right every time
- Mentor operators and developing machinists, and help raise the skill level of the whole shop
- Maintain 5S, safety, and ITAR data-handling standards
What You Bring
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience, including 3+ years on 5-axis machining centers
- Demonstrated ability to program 5-axis parts in a CAM system (Mastercam, Fusion, hyperMILL, Esprit, or similar)
- Strong blueprint reading and working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools: micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators, and thread gauges
- Experience with Haas and/or Fanuc-based controls, including G-code editing at the machine
- A track record of first-pass quality and ownership of results, not just parts off the machine
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
Preferred
- Experience in an AS9100 or defense/aerospace shop
- AS9102 first article inspection experience
- Fixture design experience
- Military veterans are strongly encouraged to apply

- Medical and dental insurance
- 401(k) retirement plan, 3% employer match
- 96 hours of paid time off per year, plus 48 hours of paid sick leave front-loaded annually
